Euthanasia

A compassionate option for dogs and cats living with terminal illnesses or chronic pain.

As pet owners, we understand how painful it can be to make the heart-breaking decision of whether or not to euthanize your furry family member. At Twin Rivers Animal Hospital, we’re a family, and this painful experience is not something you’ll have to go through alone. When the time comes, we will be with you every step of the way to make sure you feel supported and comfortable in making the best-informed decision for your pet. If you’d like to discuss your options, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at 250-828-2939.

When should I consider euthanasia?

Considering euthanasia is never easy. To help guide you through the process, our team will be with you to answer all your questions and provide shoulders to cry on if needed. When considering euthanasia, some factors you may consider are:

  • Your pet’s health status
  • Is their diagnosis terminal
  • Have all treatments stopped alleviating their chronic pain
  • Is their quality of life being affected

Will my pet feel any pain?

Our priority is to ensure your pet is calm and comfortable at all stages of the process. The procedure is generally painless and quick. If your pet is anxious or in pain, we may sedate them beforehand so they are as comfortable as possible.

Can I stay with my pet during the procedure?

You are welcome to be with your pet during this difficult time. It is entirely up to you. Pet owners can stay in the room during the procedure or say their goodbyes in a private room before or after the procedure. Our team will give you as much time and privacy as you need.
